Privacy Policy
Effective 5 October 2026. This Policy describes how BSM Attorneys collects and uses personal data on BSM Attorneys Online Library.
1. Data controller
BSM Attorneys Advocates and Legal Consultancy, House No. 28, Plot No. 229, Block A, Mikocheni A, Dar es Salaam, is the controller of personal data processed through the Platform. Contact: info@bsmattorneys.co.tz, +255 719 210 640.
2. What we collect
- Account data — name, email, phone number, password hash, organisation if supplied.
- Payment data — mobile-money number, network (M-Pesa / Airtel / Tigo), amount, VAT, transaction reference, payment status. We do not store your mobile-money PIN. AzamPay and the mobile-network operator process the payment.
- Purchase and access logs — documents bought, timestamps, device/app version as needed to fulfil the order and prevent fraud.
- e-Opinion files — facts and documents you upload so advocates can work the file.
- Support messages — email, WhatsApp, or in-app correspondence.
- Technical data — IP address, cookies or similar identifiers, crash and security logs.
3. Why we use it
We use personal data to create your account, take payment, unlock library items, deliver e-Opinions, issue receipts, prevent fraud, meet tax and anti-money-laundering duties, and improve the Platform. Legal bases include performance of a contract, legitimate interests in running a secure law-firm platform, and compliance with Tanzanian law (including tax and the Personal Data Protection Act, 2022).
4. Sharing
We share data with:
- AzamPay and mobile-network operators, solely to initiate, confirm, or refund a payment;
- Cloud hosting, email, and analytics providers who process data on our instructions;
- Advocates and staff of the Firm who need the file to deliver a service;
- Regulators, TRA, or courts where the law requires disclosure.
We do not sell personal data.
5. Retention
Account and purchase records are kept for as long as the account is active and thereafter as required for tax, professional, and dispute purposes (typically at least five years for payment records). e-Opinion files are retained according to the Firm’s file-retention practice. You may ask us to delete account data that we are not required to keep.
6. Security
We use authenticated accounts, encrypted transport, and access controls. No method of transmission is 100% secure. Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorised use of your account.
7. Cookies
The website and web app use cookies or similar storage for login, language, and essential operation. You can block non-essential cookies in your browser; the Platform may then not remember your session.
8. Your rights
Subject to Tanzanian law, you may request access, correction, deletion, or restriction of your personal data, and you may complain to the Personal Data Protection Commission. Email info@bsmattorneys.co.tz.
9. Children
The Platform is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect their data for paid services.
10. Changes
We will post updates on this page with a new effective date.
